As I read I felt connected to the characters. The easy to follow plot allowed me to enjoy the book witFrom School Library JournalGr 6-10Orphaned at four, Bet and Will have been brought up by Will's great-uncle. They were raised together, but not equally, since Bet's mother was a maid who worked for Will's parents. Still, the young people have come to think of each other as siblings. Now that they arBet feels confined by her placeneither family nor servantin the home of her wealthy benefactor. Will, the boy whos been like a brother to her since they were four, is unhappy with his fate as well. So Bet makes a plan: Shell pretend shes a boy and take Wills place at school. When she arrives at school, Bet finds boys act rather brutish when they dont think theres a girl in their midst. But brutish Bet can handle it. Its the stirrings of attraction for her roommate that get Bet into real trouble.
